Prenatal & Postnatal
Pilates, Yoga and Dance

Pre & post natal movement, when done correctly, helps to maintain and build ample strength and flexibility, allowing the body to get ready for birth and to repair and heal faster afterwards. It assists with posture, easing pain, preventing and repairing diastasis recti, promoting  circulation and more.
Rebecca Vasile has been researching pre and post natal fitness for years and worked with many different bodies to help them through their pregnancies and/or postpartum period. She is certified in Pre & Post Natal Pilates and The Center Method of Diastasis Recti Recovery from The Center of Women's Fitness. Additionally, she is a trained instructor for prenatal yoga and has seen first hand how bellydancing can help pregnancy, birth and recovery.

Prenatal Pilates Privates

Prenatal Pilates lessons can begin as soon as someone begins to think about fertility and conception.  Pregnancy is a time where your body is gearing to open up and birth a child. Its a very special time and should be treated as such. Since the body is trying to open during pregnancy, it's important to keep in mind that the more in shape you can get before conceiving the better and the more consistent your movement is during pregnancy the healthier you will feel.
Most clients enter prenatal fitness after conceiving and this is fine too. As soon as the mother feels ready to begin movement she should begin classes. The sooner the better but it's never too late to start.
During pregnancy lessons move the whole body in a safe a comfortable way. We target specific areas of the body affected by the carrying of a child. The idea is to help ease and support the low back while opening the shoulders and the pelvis. This will help pregnancy feel better, prepare the mother for labor, assist in making recovery and healing processes faster.

Initial Visit

Initial visits will take time to go through the mama's health history and assess their goals and motivations so that a proper plan can be developed. Then we will begin some movement to get a taste of what is to come. This sets mama and instructor up so they can jump right into movement on the second visit with the best exercises tailored just for her.

Prenatal Appointments

All visits are 60 minutes long. Each appointment will start with a quick check in of how the mama is feeling to gauge what type of lesson is best for her that day. While you are pregnant, every day can feel different so The Body Loom caters to that. Sessions can be soft, opening and relaxing or strong and empowering depending or anything in between. If you have discomfort on your pubic bone, we will not do any inner thigh work and focus on stabilizing the pelvis. If you have Braxon Hicks contractions we will do soft opening moves to support ease, pain relief and relaxation. You let us know how you're doing and we'll follow your lead.

Postnatal Pilates Privates

After birth, the core needs to rehabilitate. Unfortunately there is not a lot of good information out there to guide new mothers in this process. Rebecca works intimately with mamas on knitting their abdominals back together, healing diastasis recti, recovering the pelvis and pelvic floor and "re-owning" their pelvis. Postnatal Pilates is usually done for at least a year after birth and if nothing is done to repair the abdominals, it may be revisited even 20 years after birth! Technically if you've given birth you are always postnatal! While fitness classes are not recommended by doctors for 6 weeks after delivery, postnatal privates can begin with simple breathing and pelvic floor exercises as soon as mother is ready - even the day after. You will be lifting your baby right after so learning to engage the core properly is critical.

Initial Visit

Initial visits are important for postnatal mamas. It gives them the chance to discuss their birth, how they are feeling and begin very slowly and gently with breathing and core movements. It allows mama and teacher to connect and plan the rehabilitation process.
An initial postnatal visit is also recommended if one is planning on taking group classes. This way  the status of diastasis can be determined and what exercises should or should not be modified for you during group class.

Postnatal Appointments

All follow up postnatal visits are 60 minutes long. Exercises will progress as the woman's body progresses. All lessons are individually tailored. Instructor will guide the mama to repair and heal the abdomen, open up the chest and strengthen the upper back (which becomes tighter while holding baby), relieve low back pain and more. Mamas will both open and strengthen what was adjusted during pregnancy so they can feel the best they can in their bodies.

"After having a rough first trimester, I was lucky to start prenatal pilates classes with Rebecca. Her knowledge and amazing ability in explaining clearly the benefits of every exercise made me feel very comfortable and gave me a sense of safety. She is not only a great pilates instructor (you'll be surprised by how many different variations of exercise she can come up with) but she is also one of the kindest people with great positive energy; and that's why seeing her twice a week became like a therapy to both my body and soul quickly. I can't thank her enough for what she has done so far to help my body cope with different stages of pregnancy and prepare me for the big day and beyond." - Ceylan
