Three Ways to Reconnect to your Pelvis after Giving Birth

(Thrilled to be posting as part of the #ConciousConceptionCollective today. Please view, follow and participate with the other 8 wise women too!)

After your child is born is your time to allow all of the energy and emotions to move so that you can reclaim the ownership of your pelvis proudly, with love and gratitude and help yourself heal. While so much time will be devoted to your child, it is really important to take time for yourself. This will allow you to be stronger and happier – good for yourself and your baby. Here are three ways to reconnect to your pelvis:

  1. Breathe – Breathe deeply into your pelvis and your pelvic floor. Breathing works our deepest muscles and begins to wake them up. It also helps restore feeling to any areas that may feel stretched or numb. Deep breathing should begin as soon after giving birth as you can.
  2. Myofacial release and advanced breathing - The two of these connect the deepest abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, knitting them back together. They help heal diastasis recti (a common separation of the rectus abdominis muscles from the pressure of the growing baby). It will help you feel deeply and stabilize your core as you pick up your child and move through your daily life. Additionally, as you can see in the video, they also begin to physically restore the quality of skin and the shape of the abdomen.  I have seen remarkable physical results within minutes of work.
  3. Fluid Pilates and bellydance moves bring more motion, flow and feeling back to your pelvis. This will allow you to really “own” your pelvis again - to move stuck energy and get in touch with yourself. There are certain Pilates moves that are good to do as soon as you feel like it and others that need to wait until any diastasis is healed (often up to one year). The few exercises in this video can begin within days of having a healthy, natural birth. And dance your heart away with fluid bellydance moves as soon as your body feels up for it.

When you first start moving things will feel different. Allow yourself to experience that and any emotions that it invokes. If you feel like crying, cry. What’s important is that you continue to move the energy so it doesn’t become stuck in your body or your cell tissues. This way you can physically, spiritually and emotionally heal and reconnect with your pelvis, your creative center and your sexuality. Bringing feeling back into your body enables you to become embodied and to feel alive. The capacity to love yourself when you are in feeling mode is infinite. And, your body is worth loving!
